Place de la Concorde's grande dame, restored by Rosewood in 2017 — the historic Paris palace that comes closest to Aman-grade service.

What works

  • Service warmth uncommon for Paris palaces
  • Spa with a 17m pool — rare in Paris
  • Walk to Tuileries, Place Vendôme

Watch-outs

  • Courtyard rooms get morning kitchen noise
  • Breakfast à la carte at €68pp

Hôtel de Crillon sits on the north side of Place de la Concorde — the 1758 Ange-Jacques Gabriel building that was the Crillon family residence until 1907 and a hotel since 1909. The location is the rare Paris luxury address that genuinely earns the descriptor: Rue Royale and the Madeleine four minutes north on foot, the Tuileries and the Louvre five minutes east, the Champs-Élysées beginning two minutes west at the Hôtel de la Marine. Concorde Métro (lines 1, 8, 12) is at the building's basement level, and the Charles de Gaulle Étoile RER A interchange is two stops west — the property is the only Parisian palace where every primary sight on the Right Bank is sub-15-minutes by foot.

Aline Asmar d'Amman led the 2017 reopening after the four-year, €200-million Rosewood-era renovation — the design philosophy was to preserve the listed 18th-century salons (the Salon Marie-Antoinette and the Salon des Aigles are protected by the Monuments historiques) while modernising the 124 guest rooms in the upper floors with a softer, residential palette. Karl Lagerfeld designed the two namesake Grands Appartements on the Place side, but the harder daily-stay recommendation is one of the seven Bernstein-named suites: a true bedroom and salon layout rather than a hotel-room-with-a-curtain, and a useful 80-square-metre footprint at roughly €4,800 versus the €18,000-plus Lagerfeld rate.

L'Écrin is the chef Boris Campanella one-Michelin-star room, eight tables and an open kitchen, set inside a former wine cellar with a separate side-street entrance — the easiest Crillon dinner to book and the strongest food-cost ratio. Brasserie d'Aumont is the all-day brasserie facing the courtyard, the breakfast venue, and the most reliable Sunday lunch in the 8th. Les Ambassadeurs Bar — once the gastronomic dining room — is now the bar programme, with the city's best martini service and a piano set from 19:00 nightly. Sense, the spa, occupies the basement vault and includes the only 17-metre indoor pool in a Place-Vendôme-class hotel.

Rosewood loyalty (Rosewood Elite) confers room upgrades, breakfast, and a property credit — the credit is the genuinely useful piece, redeemable at L'Écrin or against spa treatments. Booking through the Rosewood Elite or Virtuoso programme costs the same as direct and adds breakfast plus a guaranteed 16:00 late check-out. The structural low season is mid-July to mid-August (Parisians decamp for the south) and the first three weeks of January; Fashion Week (late February and early October) plus the Roland-Garros fortnight are the hardest-to-book windows. Request a courtyard-facing room from level 4 upward to avoid the Concorde traffic noise.

Frequently asked

Are the Karl Lagerfeld suites worth booking?

Only for first-time Crillon guests on a milestone stay. Day-to-day comfort favours the Bernstein Suite — a real bedroom plan, not a curated showpiece.

Does the rate include breakfast?

No. Breakfast at Jardin d'Hiver is €68 per person; preferred-partner bookings (Virtuoso, FHR, STARS) bundle it.

How early can I check in?

Standard check-in is 15:00. Pre-arrival rooms are honoured when available; same-day early check-in (10:00) costs 50% of one night.
